British Grip Champs 2012 @ David Horne’s Grip Factory Stafford

Last week I took part in the British Grip Champs

I took 2nd place against some good competition

Check out the Video Highlights below

As I was videoing most of the events myself, I had a limited amount of myself on tape.

My highlight was 28 sec on the CoC#3 Silver Bullet hold

Ironmind Silver Bullet

Another great event was the Braced Snap, I went off like a steam train and burnt out my left forearm (it was pumped up like a football)

Braced Snap

I also managed my first ever lock out on the 78kg Inch Dumbbell

How to Make the Perfect Savoury Pie

by robrussell on May 9, 2012

The ‘Savoury Pie’ has been my favourite comfort food since as long as I can remember and a dish that is much requested when I visit my Mum’s house.

The origins of this famous feast are unknown, but my Mum and Gran have been knocking them out for years.

I’ve been eating Savoury pie for well over 30 years now and can guarantee it will boost your mood and waistline all at the same time (along with providing endless energy for heavy training sessions) whilst providing a cheap meal to feed a large family.

As is tradition it’s best to cook enough for 8 people when there are only 4 for dinner, as you’ll always went second helpings of this Yorkshire Classic

Savoury Pie for 2-4 people
Ingredients required:
8 of your favourite sausages
1 large onion
2 cans of baked beans
6-8 medium sized potatoes
200g of your favourite cheddar cheese.

Method:
1. Get the kettle on to boil (enough for a pan of spuds and a coffee)
2. Put your favourite CD on to play
3. Peel the spuds first and chop into a pan
4. Cover with boiling water and set off to boil (to make mash)
5. Put the sausages under the grill (or fry if preferred)
6. Chop the onions and fry gently, remove from heat when still firm
7. Once cooked put the sausages in a deep oven proof dish (round or square)
8. Cover the sausages in the fried onions
9. Open the cans of baked beans and cover the sausages and onions.
10. Once the potatoes are soft enough to mash remove from heat and drain
11. Mash the spuds with some milk and butter.
12. Spoon the mash onto the beans, onions and sausages
13. Shape with a fork (ridged style)
14. Grate your favourite cheddar onto the mash and spread evenly.
15. Cook for 20-35 mins on Gas mark 6 (400°F) until cheese is crusted and golden
16. Serve with salt and brown sauce (or as is if preferred)

Make the savoury pie even cheaper by omitting the sausages (a favourite way when I was at university)

Tuck in kids!!!

Free Kettlebell Training PDF

by robrussell on February 2, 2012

Last October to assist fundraising for my Charity Hammer challenge I wrote my first ebook – Unconventional Conditioning and gave it away with every donation and entry to a raffle.

Since then I have pretty much done nothing with it and would like to give it away to anyone who would be interested in reading it (download link below).

The book has lots of kettlebell training ideas along with other unconventional training methods to make anyones training routines more interesting.

Watch out for Unconventional Conditioning 2.0 coming soon

In return I would sincerely appreciate a Facebook LIKE on my DIY Strength Gear Page or Unconventional Conditioning Page (or both for that matter)
